Applied Research evaluation Tool (AReT)

Applied Research evaluation Tool (AReT)

The Applied Research-Evaluation Tool (AReT) is a computer based tool that evaluates breadth and depth of application for a technology or research project that has been federally funded by doing an electronic search of research applications, technologies or products that have resulted from the research. Initial focus is on SBIR and STTR projects as reporting formats will provide information on research that can support the search and quantification algorithm. The result is an objective and repeatable measure of the research utility and usefulness as determined by the number of applications. Expert participation capability could be utilized in AReT and then used to supplement, compare or evaluate results; this will ensure creating distributed systems of humans and software agents that work cooperatively to perform research and several militarily relevant tasks.
